So I began to express my love for writing even further and entered this writing contest for teens, but I didn't win. I put my heart and soul into it; used my imagination to tell a great story (so says my dad after he read it) but all I got was a certificate for participation. How do authors get published anyway? If I didn't win this, how am I gonna make it into the publishing world? Maybe I should rethink my future career.
Anyways, hope you are all having a good time during the holidays. Have fun and see ya later.

I'm sorry to hear that. What I've learned is that writers (the good ones) have very fragile egos. It's a blessing and a curse.....at least again that's in my own experience.
But chin up. J. K. Rowling got rejection letter after rejection letter. I myself was fearing the stigma of rejection so badly that I sent a half-ass edited chapter to a publishing agency just to get the first rejection letter out of the way.
One contest doesn't make or break your career. and I've seen the WORST material win contests, so the judges aren't always "there" when it comes to literature and innovation.
Sorry for the spiel. But in short, I know how you feel.
I hear ya. It stinks feeling this way. Thanks for sharing, at least we are not the only ones who went through this.
Thanks again.
